New leather, pressed rose and camphor aromas mingle in the glass together with hints of truffle. Full-bodied and youthfully austere, the firm palate shows sour cherry, white pepper, coffee bean and dried botanical herbs set against a backbone of fine-grained tannins. 93 points

The 2018 Barolo San Lorenzo di Verduno is a wild, beguiling beauty. Wild cherry, sage, lavender, blood orange, scorched earth and menthol give the 2018 an exotic quality that is so appealing. Dark and tannic, the San Lorenzo shows the more virile side of Verduno off to great effect. This is impressive. 94 points
