Mascarello is one of the homes of tradition in Piedmont. The methods in both vineyard and cellar are old fashioned to say the least, but only where those methods produce absolutely the best quality. Vineyard work is done by hand, hoeing is preferred to chemicals for instance, but most untraditionally, hard pruning means yields are minute. Long gentle macerations in the cellars not only ensures perfect extraction but the finest grained tannins you'll taste outside of Jean-Marie Fourrier's wines.

We are constantly astounded at how lovely the Monprivato is young, yet how beautifully it develops with age. Here's a fantastic opportunity to taste mature vintages of the best that Mascarello offers in Giuseppe's company and to drink them in context - with the brilliant, food-friendly cooking at 28-50. We'll be showing a sneak preview of the 2008 Monprivato, as well as four back vintages (07/06/96/82) and two vintages of Mascarello Villero (07/06). Spaces are extremely limited, so act quickly. /CC

'The 2008 Barolo Monprivato is understated, classy and very pretty. It comes across as seamless and pure, although it will be quite a few years before the wine is ready. The 2008 is mostly remarkable for its textural finesse and sheer delicateness. Crushed flowers, spices and licorice wrap around the eternal finish. I expect the 2008 will firm up once it is in bottle, but if this sneak preview is any indication, the wine is shaping up beautifully. Drink 2018-2038. 93-95+ points.' - Antonio Galloni, Wine Advocate, April 2012
