Learn how to taste and how grapes are grown and wine is made. Sixteen hours tuition and 48 wines to taste may sound like a lot - and in fact it's just enough to raise a corner of the curtain to see just how fascinating the world of wine is. So don't expect to have learned it all. But be prepared to be educated and entertained on this first step of the journey.

Session 5

In which we attempt the impossible task of explaining and illustrating Italy. With over 20 regions, hundreds of wine producing provinces, nearly a thousand grape varieties and more styles than Lady Gaga, Italy can appear a little daunting. I know a few wine trade students who, in the bad old days of WSET never bothered to study Italy because it was 'too hard'. In those days you didn't actually have to know anything about the country to pass every level of qualification! We will do better than that./CW
