A tasting with Olivier Humbrecht has been our most regularly requested event since life started to get back to normal. Erudite and eloquent, Olivier is one of the most fascinating people in winegrowing, having run Zind-Humbrecht in Alsace since 1989. The travel-bans of the pandemic temporarily halted an annual tradition of tastings at Uncorked going back to 2006, so we are extremely pleased to be able to welcome Olivier once again.
The Humbrecht family has over 350 years of winemaking heritage, but Zind-Humbrecht has only been a domaine since 1959. Extensive investments in land were made during the 1960s, with the result that the domaine now owns large areas of the best Grand Cru vineyards in Alsace. Olivier’s son, Pierre Emile, joined in 2019, and is gradually taking up the reins. They have been biodynamic in the vineyards since 1997, with minimal intervention in the winery; slow ferments and extended lees contact before bottling results in dense, mineral wines with superb poise and elegance, driven by vintage and vineyard.
Join us on Monday 3 April to taste a snapshot of the 2020 vintage, along with a few wines from 2018, and listen and discuss the wines, the vines, the horses and the meaning of life with one of our favourite winegrowers. The line-up is set to include:
