Paul-Vincent Avril is the latest in a line of superb Chateauneuf-du-Pape producers to run this iconic property and Uncorked favourite. With no new oak in sight, no quality-sapping super-cuvées and a large planting of Mourvedre in the vineyards, you might think the estate distinctive enough. But Paul-Vincent's attention to detail both in vineyard and cellar is astonishing as befits a descendant of one of the founders of the appellation.

The estate is farmed organically with a bit of a nod towards biodynamics and has been certified organic since 2011. All this activity at the business end means that the construction of new bottle cellars and sorting facilities has taken precedence over the website, which has been in the same state of construction for ten years. I can tell you that the style of the wines is so Burgundian that you can drink them at Ma Cuisine in Beaune without a twang of conscience. But as ever, come and taste for yourself as we have a lovely selection on show and Colin will talk you through the wines.

We'll be tasting six vintages of the rouge and three of the less well-known but lovely blanc. /CW

The vintages on show are 1999, 2000, 2001, 2005, 2007, 2011 rouge plus 2004, 2011 and 2012 blanc.
