From the lonely cypresses adorning the amazing vineyards of Montalcino's steep slopes to the rolling hills of the Maremma and the begravelled Bolgheri plain south of Pisa, we find Sangiovese. It can be in purezza or blended, but always reflects its terroirs. So while almost all of Tuscany looks like a Goldman Sachs executive's country park, it isn't all the same. You can tell that from the 9 DOCGs and 33 DOCs that cover the region.

Tuscany is packed with some of Italy's most exciting wines. Around Montalcino we find the most profound yet elegant Brunello, in Bolgheri the Bordeaux-like ground demands some Cabernet and Merlot. It is truly home of the Super-Tuscan. The Maremma's glory is Sangiovese in blends with other local, lesser known varieties. All in all this part of Italy has some of Europe's top vineyard sites at every level of quality and value. And the estates in this offer and tasting are all owned by the Bertarelli family, whose motto is keep it simple when you have the best terroirs, cellars and people.

We are absolutely delighted to welcome to Uncorked a man who spends his life tramping through these terroirs and is responsible for some of Tuscany's most complex and elegant wines. Luca Marrone is charming and modest and makes Grattamacco, ColleMassari and Poggio di Sotto, all stellar names and will show you some of the fruits of his labours in vineyards various.
