Classico whites and classy reds
They've always been favourite wines of ours but the last few years have seen a discernible, further uplift in quality. Stefano Inama's father Giuseppe began to buy plots of land on the best volcanic soils in the 1950s, an unwitting part of the Italian wine renaissance that was starting then. For almost four decades the family sold their fruit and didn't make their own label until 1991. Now, sited on some of the best high volcanic vineyards of the classico zone, they are arguably the best producers in the region - and far from the most expensive.
And although Stefano was born with a white wine heritage, he himself loves red wine and has planted some fabulous land near Vicenza with varieties like Carmenere, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and local vines. The soil, like Coonawarra's, is iron rich and red, perfect for deliciously mineral and savoury styles.
Come and join us, with Marta Carletto, from midday to explore how good real Soave can be as well as Veneto reds. /CW
