Barolo and beyond

You must have noticed the current buzz around the region of Piedmont. With Turin as capital and close to France, this area has hosted important cultural and industrial developments over the centuries and is even reputed to be the cradle of modern French cooking. It has some wonderful sites, particular grape varieties and a wealth of gorgeous wines. But even many of those people currently buying Barolo and Barbaresco, Barbera and Dolcetto have scarcely tasted the wines in anger. Nor have they ventured much into Arneis or Moscato territory and you'll get a taste of both.
They might know their Pauillac from their Pomerol, but can they tell a Serralunga from a Castiglione? Now you can. With this evening's tasting you can explore the area's finest products - and no, no Nutella or Ferrero Rocher./CW
