Today's visiting wine growers represent a new generation of producers in the Rhone. Didier Negron is the late Jean-Jacques Sabon's son-in-law and is in charge of the cellar – his cousin Julien provides the huge amount of work in the vineyard. Didier has long been a strong presence at Roger Sabon and has overseen the steady increase in quality at the domaine. And it's not as though the wines were poor before! Despite the all over number 2, Didier is an intelligent and thoughtful vigneron, his English is fluent and he knows the region inside and out, so is a great person to chat to about the wines.

We first met Veronique ages ago as she squirmed beside her mother as Mireille Maret told us exactly what Veronique would be doing for the next twenty years. Veronique is a match for her mother though, and possesses a natural intelligence that, together with her deep knowledge of the vineyards in which she has spent her entire life, has already produced the domaine's first new cuvée for ages – the triumphant L'Envol. She is a tremendously bright young woman, but also a hands on vigneronne. And she has taken time to learn English.
