Fine, affordable Nebbiolo from great sites

In Piedmont there are still undiscovered gems. We are always trying new things and when we find wonderful new producers it can take a bit of wheedling to get an initial allocation. But here we are with Elvio Cogno's excellent wines, albeit only a small amount.

Nadia Cogno and husband Valter Fissore have great sites - in Barolo on limestone escarpments and well exposed sand in Barbaresco. They are masters at crafting the fruit into wines of balance and grace. They also make wines you can drink, with the Cascina Nuova in particular offering enormous enjoyment early on.

It's a wonderful opportunity for you to get in early in the Cogno's arrival onto the UK scene. Their high quality and very sensible pricing make them one of the most obvious buys from the 2010 Piedmont offering. /CW
