Unsung Heroes: Champagne Gallimard

13 Nov 2018

A Champagne grower with history

Gallimard has been our house Champagne for nearly a quarter of a century and it has garnered a strong and dedicated following in this time. We suspect, however, that some of our customers may have overlooked one of our most successful and delicious champers (probably looking at something more expensive). Situated in the village of Les Riceys in one of the most southerly areas of the region, for the past six generations the Gallimard family has been Champagne growers. And they've been bottling their own wine for nearly ninety years, before the term grower Champagne had even been coined.

Didier Gallimard and his son Arnaud cultivate 10 hectares of mostly Pinot Noir, on soils with significant amounts of Kimmeridgian limestone and chalk that together produce a richer and more fruit-driven style. Because this Blanc de Noirs is soft and full of red summer fruits it pleases even those who claim to dislike Champagne. It also stands up to a wide variety of foods meaning that you can continue popping corks all the way from breakfast to dinner throughout the upcoming festive period.

As you know Uncorked pricing is transparent and competitive whether you buy by the bottle or in volume. At only £133.97 a case (equivalent to £22.33 a bottle inc duty & VAT) we have the lowest price in the UK mainland (according to winesearcher.com). Offering both great quality and fantastic value, Gallimard really ought to be on every fizz-loving oenophile's radar. Chin chin! /JW
