Roncus

To call Marco Perco unassuming would be an understatement and yet he is now comfortably installed amongst the very best white wine makers in all of Italy - no mean achievement by today`s standards.

The Vecchie Vigne comes from a 2.5 hectare vineyard with vines over 50 years old and is made from 70% Malvasia Istrana, 20% Friulano and 10% Ribolla Gialla. It is left on lees for 12 months in botte and then a further 2 years in stainless steel. This is a wine of real personality and, due to the age of the vines, tremendous complexity. The Friulano, from vineyards in Cormons, is left on lees in stainless steel for 18 months before bottling. It shows wonderful mineral flavours and a lot of persistence.

Like so many of the world`s best winemakers, Marco`s philosophy is all about hard work in the vineyard and minimum intervention in the cellar. (AR 30/03/11)
