Sipsmith Friday tasting

Friday, 28 October 2011 - 5:00pm

Free tasting today at our Bishopsgate shop, 5-7pm

Sipsmith - the cool new kids on the local, artisanal distilling front, right? Well, you'd only be half right. Yes, we know, they are the booze world's media darlings du-jour, they are dripping in critical accolades and they have created one of the hippest brands we've seen in some time. But there is one thing that sets them apart from other new distillers: they make a damn fine product. And we should know. Led by our fearless sales director, we tirelessly taste through any new gin that comes on the market - first, (academically) at the office, then in a post-office martini (more recreationally).

To be frank, most of the fancy bottles and catchy names we research are absolute rubbish - ridiculously over-saturated with botanicals or octuple-distilled for that special "nothing-y" taste.

But not Sipsmith. Their London Dry Gin is truly classic; focussed and floral, not falsely perfumed. And it's truly distilled in London - in the first copper still to open since 1820. The Barley Vodka is that rare thing - a nutty, complex vodka that hasn't had all the character bred out of it. And it's obvious the Sloe Gin has been crafted with care, a perfect refreshing warmer for a day's shooting or walking. But, as always, don't take our marketing rhetoric for it: Lucy from Sipsmith will be here from 5-7pm this evening showing off their wares and answering any Sipsmith-related questions you may have. Come and taste! /CC
