Santorini
A fabulous Assyrtiko which defies the idea that Assrtiko should not be barrel aged. The use of oak is incredibly well judged; adding texture and subtle notes of sweet spice and vanilla which sit behind a core of ripe citrus fruit and coastal salinity. This wine has impressive depth and complexity and is enjoyable right off the bat, however, cellar it for a few years and you will be rewarded. (DS 10/06/22)

The 2020 Santorini Barrel Aged Assyrtiko was aged for six months in used French oak of varying ages. It comes in at 14.8% alcohol. Big, ripe and surprisingly graceful, this is affected by the wood to some extent, but it still mostly handles it well. This holds its balance as it airs out and warms, showing off a textured finish that is very attractive. I wasn`t expecting to anoint this the best of the winery`s offerings in this report, but it might well be. That depends on how you feel about oaked Assyrtiko, though. It is well handled here, with nary a drop of vanilla. 93 points
