61% Merlot/39% Cabernet Franc. 13.5% Alcohol Yield: 30hL/ha. Ageing: 16 months in quarries, 44% new oak barrels and 4 amphorae. The most improved chateau this vintage? Berliquet blew us away when we tasted. The opulent aromatics of fruit and flower contrast with a pin-sharp sense of tension and finesse. Then there is the long, lifted, saline finish. Nicolas Audebert freely admits that when the Wertheimer brothers acquired Berliquet in 2017, the intention had been to roll the vineyards into their neighbouring Chateau Canon. But they realised that Berliquet has an identity all its own, on a much more distinct range of soils (gravel, clay, limestone and alluvial) than homogeneous Canon. Instead of submerging it into Canon they began a comprehensive plan of vineyard and cellar restructuring. The Cabernet Franc is getting more of a starring role. 10% of the final blend has been raised in amphorae. A lovely wine. (NT 23/05/22)

William Kelley
The 2021 Berliquet shows considerable promise, exhibiting aromas of cherries, wild berries, raw cocoa and rose petals, followed by a medium to full-bodied, lively and charming palate that`s framed by powdery tannins and tangy acids. Concluding with a long and saline finish, this estate continues to go from strength to strength under the administration of Nicolas Audibert and his team. 92-93 points

The 2021 Berliquet was picked September 23 to October 5 at 30hL/ha, and matured in 44% new oak for a planned 16 months. Limpid purple in color. The nose is surprisingly concentrated given the growing season, offering crème de cassis and violet petal aromas. The palate is medium-bodied with quite firm tannins that frame the black cherry and boysenberry fruit. Not a complex Berliquet, yet it possesses admirable substance and ripeness on the finish. One to watch. 91-93 points

The 2021 Berliquet is the best wine the new team led by Technical Director Nicolas Audebert has made since taking over the property a few years ago. The purity of the fruit is striking. Red cherry, plum, lavender, rose petal and spice lend nuance throughout. Despite the obviously challenging growing season, the Berliquet team turned out a very pretty wine. Impressive. Tasted three times. 91-93 points

An attractive bright purple colour with violet rim, and warming fruit aromatics, touches of cloves. This is impressive, with a lovely sense of lift and freshness, and beautifully placed raspberry, blackberry and redcurrant fruits. A little bulkier than its sibling estate Canon, slightly more angular tannins in this vintage, but still with the juicy fingerprint of limestone. First year of organic conversion, with certification expected 2024. 44% new oak, plus four amphora. 30hl/h yield, 3.41ph. Clay-limestone plateau, next to Canon but with slightly cooler, more powerful soils. Tasted twice. 93 points
