A ‘poisot’ is a well; as the name suggests, there are deep and humid soils in this bottom-slope Volnay village vineyard. The fruit here has a relatively dark plum profile, with notes of thyme and warm earth. The texture is soft, with giving tannins and a vigorous, yoghurt acidity. Good complexity at the level. The 2023 Volnay Les Grands Poisots has a more herbaceous bouquet than the Côte de Nuits cuvées. It`s a little earthy and stemmy in style. The palate is medium-bodied with firm tannins, a mixture of red and black fruit and a little austerity on the finish at the moment. Of course, it might fill out, though I will be prudent for now. 86-88 points

Fuller colour, with notably more intensity of bouquet than the Beaune. Mouthfilling which it needs to be as this comes from a more tannic sector of Volnay, on the boundary with Pommard. The fruit wins the battle and continues through to a persistent finish. 88-90 points
