Vignes de la Famille Tawse
Lavaux St-Jacques is a cooler premier cru, south-facing and reaching into the Combe de Lavaux. It tends to make a precise, delicate style of Pinot rather than one full of dark fruit. There’s a lovely perfume here, that suggests a very refined wine. In the mouth, there is a real rush of energy. Not a rich or flashy style (as can be the case here in some years), this is fresh and elegant, very composed, very fine wine. (NT 18/12/24)

The 2023 Gevrey-Chambertin Lavaux Saint-Jacques 1er Cru was completely destemmed this year. It has slightly darker fruit than the Champeaux, with fine delineation and just a hint of licorice in the background, though it does not impede upon the terroir. The palate is medium-bodied and lightly spiced with poise on the entry, dark berry fruit tones and quite an elegant and understated finish. It was maybe a little more closed on the day but you could see the potential here. 93-95 points

Two thirds of the vines were planted in from 1929, and the rest are not much younger. Very millerand grapes which were destemmed. Seven barrels made, which is unheard of even in the memory of the Maume family, whence these vines originated. Bright vigorous purple fruit, very sensual, picked at ideal ripeness, the fruit flowing across the palate, backed by useful tannins to finish. 5* 94-97 points
