Formerly known as Domaine Frapin, the cigar isn`t compulsory, but more reflects the positive obsession that both the vineyard and distillery managers at Frapin have with the Cuban sticks of meditation. This is a Cognac redolent of the mellowness of maturity, its youthful fiery base spirit having been transmuted into rich, golden and complex essence. (CW 07/11/13)

This is Château Fontpinot’s counterpoint, aged 20 years in humid cellars, and much rounder, richer and sweeter in style. There’s candied orange and ginger and mulled spices on both the nose and the palate, and citrus throughout, with — of course — prominent notes of cigar box. Supple and easy-drinking (40% abv). 91 points
