Bourbon Hogshead, then Cask Islay Sherry Edition Barrique
Not a single malt, but a single grain whisky. In Scotland, by law, grain whisky is made from a blend of barley (as in malt whisky) and another grain (usually corn). When we say it is a single grain, that means it is from only one distillery. This beauty is from Invergordon, one of Scotland’s six dedicated grain distilleries. Grain whiskies tend to be richer and sweeter than their malt counterparts, and often have a flavour profile close to bourbon. This has been given an usual finish, in an ex-Oloroso cask which has previously held a very peaty whisky. The result is impressive and impressively complex mix of sweet and earthy, like a peat fire in a sherry bodega. Not shy! (NT 07/06/23)
