Impressively weighted and oaky, the 2021 The 1947 Chenin Blanc is expressive with notes of wax melon and elegant citrus blossom essence that waft with white peach and nectarine notes. Medium to full-bodied, brown baking spices sway across the mid-palate with almond and lemon pastry cream flavors. It has an elegant mouthfeel, power, precision and a riper and fuller expression that compounds over the long and expressive finish. Put this on your shopping list if you enjoy oak-driven Chardonnay with elegance and finesse. This is an elegant and seductive Chenin Blanc. Bravo. 92+ points

The 2021 Chenin Blanc 1947 comes from bush vines planted in the aforementioned year, planted by Danie Jnr`s great-grandfather, the original six hectares now withered to just a single hectare. It has a wonderful bouquet with beautiful honeysuckle, yellow plum and vanilla scents on the nose. The palate is very well balanced with a sensual creamy texture, lightly spiced with orange rind and white pepper, a touch of fennel towards the persistent finish. Wonderful but it would be even better if matured entirely in used oak. 93 points
