A wistful strawberry and rose petal bouquet on this delightful rose champagne; it may come from the French citadel of Ay, but for me it`s all about the English summer. It is also an ideal match for smoked kippers, so perfect for imagining you are Noel Coward, drinking champagne with a ration card breakfast while bombs crash down around you. In the interests of historical accuracy, it should be noted that this cuvee did not appear for the first time till 2008, but historical accuracy should never be allowed to get in the way of a good flight of fancy. The latest release of Bollinger`s NV Brut Rosé is showing especially well, offering up complex aromas of sweet stone fruit, honeycomb, freshly baked bread and orange oil, followed by a medium to full-bodied, pillowy and vinous palate. Layered and concentrated, with a pretty pinpoint mousse and ripe but racy acids, it concludes with a long, expansive finish. 92 points
